What does that mean?
It means attending the Pacific region's leading boarding and day college-preparatory school, featuring a remarkably low 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio and located in the heart of the world-famous Parker Ranch on the Big Island of Hawaii.
As a student at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, you will have access to resident teachers seven days a week, to indoor tennis and student recreation centers, to a swimming pool designed for international, collegiate, and high school competition, to full visual and performing arts facilities, to a 100 percent wireless computer campus. You will be challenged by our very rigorous academic program which includes 15 Advanced Placement courses in the Upper School. Every year, we send our graduates to the most selective colleges in the world, and they report great satisfaction and confidence as a result of their preparation at HPA.
The multinational students at HPA live, learn, and play in the midst of the world's most diverse ecosystem. Ten of the globe's 13 climate zones exist on the Big Island! Our unique location offers amazing access to activities found together nowhere else on earth. Depending on your interests, "the HPA Experience" might mean:
- Scuba diving with scientists to study Hawaiian sea turtles
- Learning to ride horses on our 220-acre Upper School campus
- Surfing with friends before school in the morning, and visiting an active volcano in the same afternoon
- Competing on a state championship athletic team
- Hiking steep rainforest hills and remote black sand beaches, producing professional-quality video and audio demo tapes, "working a dig" at an actual archeological site, or designing remote-controlled robots
- Performing in a Broadway musical
- Helping young children in a local elementary school learn to read
