April 11-12
We flew into Tibilisi, Georgia from Ankara on April 10 – arriving in the evening. On April 11, we visited Jijili School, the oldest private school in Tibilisi, and gave presentations to students, who were bright and very personable. We then drove to the School of Tomorrow, a small school located in the middle of a public park. Following that visit we gave presentations to students at the British-Georgian Academy. At the end of the day we met the Headmaster of the American Academy Tibilisi and drove to Mskheta, the spiritual capital of Georgia. We visited two cathedrals, one built in the 9th Century and the other built in the 11th Century.
The next morning we first visited the Georgian-American School, we gave presentations to the entire school of students in the auditorium. The students were very engaged and delightful. Next we drove to #42 Tilisi Public School. The school had very poor facilities, little heat and only a few light bubs in the halls, but the students were extremely bright and have a reputation for excelling in math and science. The last school visit was to the American Academy Tibilisi where we held a mini-fair for students looking for summer programs or a post-graduate year.
That night we held a fair for the public and over 50 families came to learn more about studying in the U.S., Canada, or U.K. The prospective students were very intelligent and were extremely interested in studying in the U.S. After the fair we packed and had a 1:45AM flight to Baku, Azerbaijan.
