Mr. Joshua D. Clark Director of Admission
Purdue University, B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy, 1996
My two favorite things about HPA both stem from my public high school education, an experience very different from HPA. First, everyday I witness the amazing opportunities available to HPA students—opportunities most students around the country only dream about. And I am amazed at how fully HPA students take advantage of these opportunities—soaking up these amazing experiences like a sponge. What a thrill it is to see students who are enthusiastically active around the clock; it means they appreciate what is available to them.
Secondly, I am impressed at how friendly HPA students are—a vastly different experience than my own public high school education. At HPA, students have such a spirit of aloha and the genuine kindness and openness they show to one another is remarkable.
My HPA 'Ohana Connection: My wife and I are expecting a child this year and we look forward to becoming HPA parents, class of 2030!
Special Interests: I love reading and wish I had more time to do it. I enjoy traveling and all the new experiences each place offers. I love food—barbecuing, baking my own bread, or trying a new Indian dish—all for the enjoyment of eating.

Ms. Arati Clarry, '96 Assistant Director of Admission
Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy, 1996 Bryn Mawr College, B.A. The Growth of Structure of Cities, 2000 University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, M.A. Public Health, in progress
My favorite thing about HPA would have to be the students—their warmth of spirit, their individual interests, their academic drive, their athletic effort, their artistic personalities, and their contributions to building the HPA ‘Ohana.
My HPA ‘Ohana Connection: I am an HPA graduate, class of ’96. My brother, Arjun, is class of ’95 as is my husband, Kip. Our son, Isaiah, is class of 2021 and our daughter, India, will hopefully be in the class of 2026. I also have brothers-in-law who are proud HPA alums (Mikee ‘87 and Chad ‘97).
Special Interests: My children are my passion and anything that I do with them is my pleasure—baking dark chocolate organic brownies with them; dancing with them; painting with them; reading to them and with them; running, or more accurately, chasing them; eating sushi with them, and traveling with them.
