Milan, ItalyMy last city of this very long trip was certainly not the least. Milan was added at the last minute, in fact the day before I left for Ghana I was finalizing my flights to and from Milan. Even though it was a last minute addition, it was a very successful trip. I was there for basically 24 hours. I got into Milan late at night. The next morning we went to a high school and had a fair.... Read More > |

Munich, Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Duesseldorf, Hamburg, Germany- November 4-12, 2011My time in Germany was part of an organized tour. Several schools joined an educational consultant and traveled to five cities. At each city we would have a fair where we would each introduce our school and then families would go to the tables of the schools they were interested in learning more about. The tour was well organized and I was able to meet many families who were interested in HPA... Read More > |

Moscow, Russia- November 1- 4, 2011I arrived in Moscow in the evening. I planned ahead and shipped a jacket to myself, so it was good to pick up the box at the front desk after checking in and getting a jacket. After being in Africa and the Middle East for so long, I wasn’t prepared for the cold. The following day, my first appointment was with the Education USA office. Once again, this office is funded by the U.S. State... Read More > |

Kuwait- October 24-26, 2011I flew from Bahrain to Kuwait City (about the same time it takes to fly from Honolulu to Kona) and arrived at the hotel in enough time to check in and go to bed. The next day I spent most of the time catching up on e-mails and then that evening all the schools who were going to travel together this week met for an orientation dinner. Saudi Arabia- October 18 -24, 2011I arrived in Saudi Arabia around 2AM from the flight from Lagos, Nigeria (with a layover in Doha, Qatar). I was in the Kingdom to visit the Saudi Aramco schools.
Saudi Aramco is the largest oil company in the world, and started as a joint U.S. and Saudi company. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia bought out all the U.S. interests in the 80’s I believe, and the Kingdom and the government of Saudi... Read More > |

Lagos, Nigeria- October 12-17, 2011The last days in Lagos were three days of fairs. The first fair was held in our hotel for six hours (2PM – 8PM). We had several families come through and meet with us. Typically most fairs are 2 – 2 ½ hours, but in Africa you have to extend the length of your fair so families can make it here since traffic is so bad. It was a great opportunity to show families how amazing HPA is, especially... Read More > |

Lagos, Nigeria- October 12, 2011We arrived in Lagos and drove straight to our hotel on the island of Ikoyi. It is in the Lagos Lagoon with three bridges that connect it to the mainland of Lagos City. We chose the location because of the traffic problems in Lagos. People drive onto the island in the morning for work and drive off to go home in the evenings. By being the island, we can go against traffic to have appointments... Read More > |

Caracas, Venezuela- October 1, 2011I arrived in Caracas mid-day. I had to wait in the hotel lobby for an hour or so before I could check-in, so I was able to contentedly work on e-mail. I was also told by staff that Caracas isn’t the safest city to wander unknowingly and decided to stay in the hotel and got a lot of work done on the computer. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get outside to see the city. It was my... Read More > |

Quito, Ecuador - September 28, 2011On Wednesday, Sept. 28 we flew from Bogota to Quito, Ecuador. After arriving I spent the rest of the day catching up on e-mails and getting some laundry done. It was absolutely beautiful and I understood why it... Read More > |

Bogota, Colombia
Bogota, Colombia is a fascinating city. The first day we visited two different schools and met with their entire middle school and upper school classes. It was a very busy day, but the students were eager and interested in studying abroad for a summer or year. I enjoyed speaking to them, and they loved the photos of HPA and all the activities we do. On the second day in... Read More > |

Mexico City
In the morning I went with a group of schools to a well-known educational consultant in Mexico City. It was a wonderful visit and she able to learn about some new things at HPA. For example, I spoke about the “Business Innovator” award that the HPA Energy Lab received from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). HPA was one of 35 honorees, and the only... Read More > |
