Academy Swim Club at HPA Announces 2012 Long-Course Season

The Academy Swim Club at Hawaii Preparatory Academy will start its 2012 long-course season on Monday, January 23. Academy Swim Club is a member of United State Swimming (http://www.usaswimming.org) and Hawaiian Swimming (http://www.hawaiianswimming.org) and is open to interested swimmers in the Kamuela/Big Island area. Swimmers are coached by Mark Noetzel, Tina Doherty and Ryan Ross. All coaches are members of United States Swimming and abide by all of the rules conduct setforth by the national organization.  

Swimmers can participate in Pre-Team, White Team, and Blue Team practices, based on ability. Coaches will evaluate interested swimmers who wish to competitive and place them on the White Team or Blue Team

Pre Team Information

The Pre-Team is for developing swimmers who can confidently swim 25 yards of freestyle. Pre-Team swimmers will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Session 1 ends on May 17th and Session 2 begins on Tuesday, June 5th and ends on July 12th.

White Team Information

  • White Team workouts are designed for swimmers, both novice and experienced, who want to improve their swimming technique and competition skills. Workouts range from 1,500 to 3,000 yards. Practices are held Monday through Thursday. Swimmers can choose to attend practice two, three, or four times per week. Please see the "Group Calendars" button above for the exact times of practice. Note there are slight shifts in the schedule as the HPA high school season ends (February 13th) and when HPA waterpolo season ends (near the first of May).

Blue Team Information

  • Blue Team workouts are designed for experienced swimmers (A/AA times or above) who wish to develop a strong work ethic and possess the desire to increase their endurance while improving their stroke technique, and ability to compete at the "next level." Dryland exercises typically begin practices and are followed by water time with practice sets adding up  to 4,000 (+/-)yards.

Swimming Lessons Information

Semi-private swimming lessons also are available for all new swimmers. The 30-minute classes are held Sunday afternoons between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Actual class time is scheduled with instructor Maria Linekar.
