Monthly Memo: December 2007

Seniors:
We have now finished our second round of senior counseling sessions. As you know, we need you to do the following things before the Christmas break:

1) Make sure that your college counseling folder is complete
2) Turn in all transcript request forms for your colleges (both paper transcript request forms and online Naviance requests)
3) Turn in all of your Secondary School Report forms and Mid-Year Report forms
4) Hand out your teacher recommendation forms
5) Send your SAT and/or ACT scores
6) Turn in your Winter Break Form to College Counseling
7) Confirm that Mrs. Brotman's "Green Notebook" has your correct college list

Good luck on your exams, and enjoy the holidays. We will be available in our office to help you over the break. If you have questions or need any help, please e-mail akelsey@hpa.edu, cmontgomery@hpa.edu, or jbrotman@hpa.edu or call us at 808-881-4295.

Note on Letters of Recommendation: You must give your teachers and counselors at least one month to prepare their letters of recommendation or school reports. When you ask a teacher to write a recommendation for you, you should give them a completed self-evaluation for their class (available in CCC), stamped and addressed envelopes for all of your colleges, and a thank you note that includes your application deadlines.
College Application Deadlines
December 1 Secondary School Report and Mid-Year Report forms due to CCC and recommendation forms due to teachers for all January 1 deadlines
December 8 (Before Exam Week) Secondary School Report and Mid-Year Report forms due to CCC and recommendation forms due to teachers for all other January deadlines
Test Registration Deadlines
December 8 (Before Exam Week) Registration deadline for January 26 SAT (due to Winter Break)
Registration deadline for February 9 ACT (due to Winter Break)

Juniors:
Please continue study the College Counseling Web site and the Family Connection Page. The most important things to concentrate on are doing your best in your classes and mapping out your testing schedule for this year. You already have taken your last PSAT. This year, you are expected to take the SAT I, the ACT, and the SAT II. All Juniors are required to register for the January 26 SAT and the February 9 ACT before winter break. If you have a conflict on these dates, you are expected to make plans to take these two tests on other test dates (see testing calendar page). Juniors also should take SAT II Subject Tests on May 5. On January 8, we will have our Young Alumni Assembly, and then we will begin our X period junior college planning classes. Good luck on your exams and enjoy the holidays.
