| Solar Water Heating Systems for Faculty Cottages Eight faculty cottages received new solar water heating systems. |

| Solar Water Heating System for Dowsett Swimming Pool HPA repaired the gymnasium locker room roof, re-established skylights, and installed a solar thermal system to heat the swimming pool. | Ozone Pool Sanitation System HPA is the first school on the island of Hawai‘i to install an ozone pool sanitation system. This system has provided better water quality yet reduced the use of chlorine by more than 50 percent. |

| Solar Vent Fans The school installed 23 solar-powered vent fans: nine on the gymnasium locker room roof, three at the Village Campus drama hall, one at the science chemical storeroom, and 10 larger ones at Castle Gymnasium. |

| Compact Florescent Lights HPA replaced iridescent light bulbs with the more energy efficient compact florescent light bulbs. The school still is in the process of converting to compact florescent light fixtures and energy star products. |

| Go Green Charrette The school held a Go Green charrette to develop a strategic sustainability plan and set objectives and goals for the next five and 10 years. O'Brien and Company from Seattle, Washington facilitated the workshop. HPA adopted the Five-Year Sustainability Action Plan in December 2007. |

Eco-Friendly Products The dining hall continues to reduce its use of disposable take-out supplies and uses compostable disposable products. The kitchen also uses biodegradable cleaning products and non-trans fat oils, which is recycled to fuel vehicles on campus. The housekeeping department continues to test green cleaning products for effectiveness. The school contracts its carpet cleaning to a company who uses only green cleaning solutions. HPA orders recycled paper for its copying and printing machines. |
