Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy and The Kohala Center Host Third Annual Student Congress on Sustainability 2010, June 1-4, 2010

2009 Student Congress members in front of the Energy LabThe Student Congress on Sustainability 2010 aims to celebrate, inform, and cultivate student-driven environmental initiatives addressing local, national, and global issues.  Through the enthusiasm, talent, and resourcefulness of young men and women, the Congress will be one means of facilitating widespread education and collaboration among high school students, serving to cultivate and shape habits of mind that will translate sustainable ideology into practice.

During this four-day event students will have the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas. There will be excursions, workshops, hands-on activities, and a series of speakers drawn from environmental scientists, community activists, educators, and others whose work will provide inspiration and direction for the students.

Friendly AquaponicsSpace will be limited to the first 80 students, so current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are encouraged to register early. Student application forms are available online. Please download, complete, and return the application form via fax or e-mail.  Students will be notified when their application has been received and accepted. Event location: This event will be held at the Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy, 65-1692 Kohala Mountain Road, Kamuela, HI 96743.

Bio DieselCost and accommodations: There is no cost to participants or their schools to attend the Congress except transportation costs to and from the school campus. Students will be housed in the Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy dormitories and supervised by resident assistants.  Teachers also are invited to stay on campus.  All meals will be provided for those students and teachers who will reside on campus.

Dates and times: Registration will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1. Pick-up will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 4.
