Class of 2015—Ready for Upper School!
The Middle School recognized 47 members of the Class of 2015 during a transition ceremony held Thursday, May 19, at Gates Performing Arts Center. Cathy Grant, K-8 assistant principal, gave the invocation and Midge Jambor, K-8 principal, addressed the class.
Eighth grade advisors, Mariah Dodd, guidance counselor; Susie Jones, director of residential life; Jambor, and Kumu Kuwalu Anakalea presented Character Virtue Awards to the following rising ninth graders:
- Respect: Eliana Kaplan
- Justice: Tucker Higgins
- Love: Jordan Peri
- Honesty: Keisuke Anzai
- Courage: Annie Geiger
- Hope: Tori Greco Hiranaka
- Loyalty: Jessie Ainslie
- Overall: Sophia Boucher
- Overall: Hideyoshi Akai
Class speakers were Sophia Boucher and Maiah Police.
In a special class presentation, the Class of 2015 surprised assistant principal Cathy Grant with former advisees from the last three years. Keanu Yamamoto '12, Angie Shumov '13, and Ryan Fujioka '14 each shared their favorite memory of being part of Grant's advisory. Grant will be returning to the third grade classroom in the fall.
Middle School teachers Matt and Adriana Piercy closed the ceremony with this advice:
ATTITUDE AND PERSPECTIVE: You can sit back and go through the motions of life or you can add joy to everything you do. Make everything fun. Life is really what you make it.
FOLLOW YOUR HEART. BE YOURSELF: There's something beautiful in every one of you.
PASSION: Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life. "If you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it."
