Fourth and Fifth Graders Present "Munchkin Mediation: Conflict Resolution in Oz"
Fourth and fifth graders at Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) presented "Munchkin Mediation: Conflict Resolution in Oz" at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 7. The musical performance, which was free and open to the public, was held at Gates Performing Arts Center on the school’s Upper Campus.
“Munchkin Mediation: Conflict Resolution in Oz” was presented in conjunction with the students’ conflict resolution unit. The play was written by John Heath and Ron Fink of Bad Wolf Press and adapted by HPA music teacher Georgia Polakova and guidance counselor Mariah Dodd.
It's a year later and all the famous characters from the story "The Wizard of Oz" have returned to Oz. They've been having trouble readjusting, and their quarrels have led to the throwing of more than one yellow brick. Perhaps it is no surprise that the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch (yes, she's back in solid form!) still don't get along. But the Tin Man and Lion can't agree on anything either, and even Dorothy and Toto are barking at each other. They've come back to the Munchkins, experts on conflict resolution, to learn how to solve their problems. Full of surprises and humor, this show demonstrates different ways to resolve conflicts and puts a smile on our face at the same time.
This was the first in a series of musical productions by HPA’s Lower School students. The second and third grade classes will present the next performance at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, December 2.
