HPA Second and Third Graders Present "Tide Pool Condos"
Second and third grade students at Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) will present Tide Pool Condos, at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, December 2. The musical performance, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Gates Performing Arts Center on the school’s Upper Campus.
Tide Pool Condos, presented in conjunction with the students’ ocean studies unit, tells the story of Elizabeth, a developer who wants to destroy some tide pools so she can build luxury condominiums. Kanaloa, the Hawaiian god of the sea, has other ideas. To settle the dispute, the two of them, with the help of some friends, set out to visit the wonders of the ocean. Students learn about the ocean by visiting fish, doing the Continental Shuffle on the continental shelf, and meeting a variety of ocean residents, such as plankton working their way “up the food chain,” sea mammals insisting that “fishes are fools,” and the Bioluminescent Guys brightening up the Twilight Zone.
This is the second of a series of musical productions by HPA’s Lower School students. The kindergarten and first grade classes will present their production at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012.
