Microscopic Explorations
Wed September 07, 2011
Fourth and fifth graders recently learned how magnifiers work and analyzed various materials under the "scopes" as they rotated in small groups through nine stations:
1. Up Close (looking at small text, stamps, negatives with a hand lens)
2. Fingerprint Ridges
3. Dots and Dollars (looking at money and pixels of colored newspaper with a hand lens and a microscope)
4. Fabrics
5. Salts
6. Sand (examining and comparing sands from around the island and placing them on a map)
7. Kitchen Powders
8. Small Creatures (observing small, dead creatures with a hand lens and a microscope)
9. Brine Shrimp
