Residential Life Letter

Aloha:

We want to welcome you to the Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy ‘ohana (family) and to the Middle School.  Your child can look forward to an enriching and fun experience here.  We look forward to meeting you on August 17, 2008.

As the director of residential life, I am responsible for your child while s/he resides in the dormitories.  The other residential faculty members, Mrs. Jim and her family, Ms. Buscher, Mr. and Mrs. Piercy, and I want to say hello and sincerely welcome your child to HPA.

Please contact me with your questions at 808-885-2551 (office) or by e-mail: sjones@hpa.edu. I am happy to answer any of your questions and am available to you at anytime.  The HPA Web site and literature we mail you usually answers all of your questions and directs you appropriately.  We urge you to make all travel arrangements now for next year to make traveling easier.  (See school schedule to arrange arrival/departure flights)  Please note that international students must plan to leave the day after school gets out for breaks so they actually attend the last day of school before each break.  Please e-mail the travel office with confirmed travel itineraries at travel@hpa.edu even if you will be traveling with your child.  Knowing your travel plans is essential to help us plan airport transportation and staffing.

Please report to the Upper School campus first for the important registration process and then drive to the Village Campus, where your child will live. Once you are here, we will confirm your child's roommate and room, and the faculty who live on your floor will be available to help you with any questions about boarding life and general schedules.  You will receive a packet with all the information you need to start your child's school year and boarding life in a positive way.  Contact information for your child and the adults involved with your child also will be provided on arrival.

After registering at the Upper School, please come to the Village Campus between noon and 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008.  There are a number of activities planned for your family in the late afternoon and evening.  There will be a PARENT MEETING from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at the Village Campus.  From there, we will guide you to our fun Experience HPA event, which runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Upper School.  Our Open House is on Monday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and we highly recommend that you and your child attend. Again, many events will be going on and please know we will guide you and your packet will have a detailed schedule to follow in the opening days of the new school year.

We are providing some helpful hints and schedules to assist you as you plan your entrance into boarding life at HPA:
