Voluntary Random Drug Testing Program (VRDT)
With the support of HPA’s ‘Ohana Association, our Health and Wellness team will introduce the Voluntary Random Drug Testing Program (VRDT) to our school, beginning the 2010-2011 school year. This program, though voluntary, will require every Upper School student and family to complete a form either enrolling in or declining to participate as part of the beginning-of-school enrollment process. Both the student and at least one parent (or legal guardian) will be required to sign the form, which will be sent to parents by e-mail and available online.
HPA continues to provide a myriad of drug education and prevention activities for students and families through our Health and Wellness program; VRDT is just one more facet of our existing programs. VRDT is designed to empower our students to say "NO" to drugs and to help families communicate with their children about this threat to our youth.
We would like to acknowledge the support and assistance we’ve received from Mid-Pacific Institute on O‘ahu. Mid-Pacific Institute adopted a VRDT program in 2005, which has proven to be very successful since its inception.
Questions about VRDT or other drug education and prevention questions may be addressed to Headmaster Lindsay Barnes at 808-881-4001 (lbarnes@hpa.edu); Mark Noetzel, Upper School principal, at 808-881-4002 (mnoetzel@hpa.edu); or Fred Wawner, dean of student life, at 808-881-4290 (fwawner@hpa.edu).
