Student Life
Ever since we opened our doors in 1949, the mission of the Hawaii Preparatory Academy has been to provide an exceptional learning environment for young people. Today, we continue a legacy of excellence in education as one of the premier co-educational boarding and day schools in the Pacific Region. The Upper School enrollment is approximately 350 students. Of these, about 50% are boarding students.
Our 220 acres campus is nestled in the lush foothills of the Kohala Mountains on the Island of Hawaii. In this magnificent setting, you will challenge yourself in the classroom, on the playing field, and in your daily living, while developing leadership skills and friendships that will last the rest of your life.
Our hometown of Waimea has been recognized as one of the top 10 best places to live in the United States. Living on campus, you will enjoy a residential program enriched by our extended family or "ohana" who share their warmth and the gracious spirit of aloha. Our live-in faculty families offer adult companionship and guidance while our senior prefects act as "big brothers" and "big sisters".
