Student Council News

Red Ribbon Week is a time devoted to creating a healthy, drug free future for America. Schools, community groups, governments, and businesses increase their drug prevention efforts in October due to this nationwide event. Good character traits and positive choices are emphasized in addition to the need for living free from drugs. More than 80 million youth and adults nationwide will show their support for and commitment to youth drug prevention October 29 to November 2 in celebration of Red Ribbon Weeks.
The Lower and Middle School Student Councils will support this initiative by distributing red ribbons and sharing some of their ideas at our Monday assembly. Our older students will be learning a bit about the gateway drugs – Alcohol, Cigarettes and Marijuana and practice refusal skills. The younger students will learn about the difference between helpful drugs that parents or doctors give them and drugs that are not good for them.
Parents, you are the first line of defense when it comes to preventing your child’s drug use or drinking - you do make a difference! Nearly two-thirds of teenagers see great risk of upsetting their parents or losing the respect of family and friends if they drink, smoke marijuana or use other drugs. Please use Red Ribbon Week as a time to let your children know how you feel about under-age drug use and the expectations you have.
