A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!
On behalf of the Village Campus community, I am proud to announce that our own Meimei Nakahara has been recognized as the middle school winner in the state of Hawai‘i for the 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Award. This annual award, sponsored by the Prudential Life Insurance Company, recognizing middle and high school students for outstanding community service and volunteerism throughout the United States, is special because there are only 50 middle school and 50 high school students, one for each state at each school level, recognized! Meimei will receive a $1,000 award, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for a series of national recognition events from May 3-6, 2008. Thanks much to teachers Laura Jim, Marc Rice, Susan Hammer, and George Balazs for supporting and mentoring Meimei’s interest in turtle tagging and research. Meimei will be awarded her medallion at our Middle School Monday morning assembly at 7:55 a.m. on April 7.
As we end the first half of the second semester with spring break, it is with excitement and a continued sense of awe and appreciation that I write to you knowing what great learning experiences your children are offered every day at the Village Campus. I am continually amazed with our faculty’s unending reservoir of energy, creativity, and passion as they engage and guide students in their learning.
This newsletter provides you with information about the remainder of this school year and next school year. Faculty changes for next school year, curriculum updates, upcoming events, and special highlights are included, in addition to the calendar of events at the end of the newsletter for the remainder of the school year. I wish you and your children an enjoyable and restful spring break and look forward to a great fourth quarter!
Mahalo,
Terrence Factor
