HPA’s Eleventh Head of School Robert McKendry
Robert McKendry became HPA’s 11th Head of School on July 1, 2015. He succeeded Lindsay R. Barnes Jr., who retired at the end of the 2014-2015 school year, after leading the school since 2008.
Robert joined HPA as chief financial officer in 2010. He previously served as an independent school business manager and treasurer on Hawaiʻi Island and also held public accounting and private sector financial management positions in Michigan, California, and Hawaiʻi. He earned his degrees in finance, management, and accounting from the University of Oregon and Baker College.
His promotion was announced by Gregory Mooers, chairman of the HPA Board of Trustees, who described McKendry as a “truly exceptional candidate.”
“Robert’s leadership skills, intellect, and collaborative personality are appreciated by everyone who has worked with him,” Mooers said. “Robertʻs work ethic, intelligence, moral compass, and his accomplishments at HPA are already the stuff of legend here,” he added.
Robert and his wife, alumna Fiona Ednie Mckendry, have two children at HPA.
