Lynn Taylor Library
The Taylor Library, serves grades K-8 on the Village campus of Hawai'i Preparatory Academy. It is located at the Village Campus fronting Kawaihae Road. The goal of our K-8 library is to provide access to information and to encourage and develop a love for all literature. Our program introduces students to age-appropriate library skills, supports classroom teaching and teachers, and help students succeed in their academic experience. Our library programs are based upon the American Association of School Librarians National School Library Standards, a framework of standards for learners, school librarians, and school libraries, as published by the American Library Association in 2018. The Taylor Library is a learning center for the Village Campus, providing an intellectual environment for students as well as a place for gathering, for reading or relaxing. Students are welcome both in their formal classes as well as before, after or during the school day for finding books, working on an individual task, working with a small group, simply browsing or reading, or printing. Our hours are from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm weekdays.
The Taylor Library is a rich resource for the Village Campus students. Our collection of books is approximately 11,000 titles. Our online catalog provides information on the book collections of both the Taylor and Dyer (Upper School) libraries. We have over 15 magazine and newspapers. We have databases from a range of providers through EBSCO Host. We have two online book collections, Tumble Books and Tumble Book Cloud, providing online books, videos and other resources for students. We provide links to the Hawaiʻi Public Library and University of Hawaiʻi Library systems.
Friends of the HPA Libraries
The Friends of the HPA Libraries is a wonderful group of parents/supporters who are an instrumental facet of the Taylor Library. Through their book fair fundraising efforts, their assistance with shelving and library tasks, and their Author Visit program, they provide invaluable, enriching experiences for the students. If you would like to join, please contact Mr. Giff for more information.
