Bieni Fun Run

In 2009, HPA held the first Bieni Kohler-Johnson Memorial Fun Run in honor of Ulrike Katharina "Bieni" Kohler-Johnson '83, a much beloved alumna, daughter, wife, sister, and mother who passed away in 2009 after a valiant battle against breast cancer. To honor her memory, Bieni’s family lovingly established an endowed scholarship award in her name to support deserving young women at HPA. Thanks to the continued generosity of those who knew and loved Bieni, the fund has grown and now grants four young women $1,200 scholarships annually. These recipients demonstrate a shining sincerity of commitment and unhesitant willingness to go the "extra mile" for friends, family, or a worthy cause.

For decades, endowed scholarship funds like the Bieni Kohler-Johnson Memorial Scholarship have helped to pave the way for earnest young people to attend HPA. Today, more than 40 endowed scholarship funds generate roughly $500,000 every year for students with demonstrated financial need.

Same Day Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on April 14

It is fitting that the Bieni Kohler-Johnson Memorial Fun Run, which began as a way to honor a courageous young woman and raise awareness about the award given in her name, has steadily grown to help even more students.

About Bieni

Beini Kohler-Johnson

Bieni Kohler-Johnson grew up on the Big Island and graduated from HPA in 1983. A devoted mother, loving spouse, and passionate athlete, she fought valiantly to defeat breast cancer, sadly losing that battle in June of 2009. The Bieni 5K Fun Run was established that year by her friend and classmate, Liz Noetzel, to honor her memory and to provide support for the scholarship in BIeni's name. Each year, four HPA female student-athletes are selected to receive this distinguished honor in recognition of their gifts in athletics, academics, and/or the arts, and for their commitment to working hard to develop and share those gifts.
