Sustainability in Action

Putting our plan into action: Fostering a living laboratory for sustainability

At HPA, we believe our campus can become a living laboratory that sends engaged citizens and agents of change into the world. We must raise up a generation of problem-solvers, recognizing that our young people will face both the burden and the opportunities of a new ecological paradigm. Surrounded by unique ecosystems and cultures, HPA is perfectly positioned to be among the greenest of schools and to undertake a leadership role in sustainability education.

Hallmarks of our sustainability vision include:

  • K-12 programming that will cultivate student understanding, leadership, and impact from kindergarten through high school.
  • Capstone courses and project-based work allows students to develop and demonstrate innovation.
  • 12 sustainability metrics by which we’ll measure progress, including food, wellness, waste, alternative transportation, water, land, and energy.
  • A resource goal of 100% renewable energy consumption by 2030.
  • Achieve zero waste by 2030.
  • Upgrade of systems and facilities to achieve green benchmarks and a comprehensive campus plan viewed through the lens of sustainability.

It won’t happen all at once, but here ways we are chipping away at our sustainability goals as an ‘ohana.
