We are a globally-diverse community that nevertheless offers authentic American high school life — a unique combination! You’ll live and learn with day students from Hawai‘i as well as fellow boarders from the continental U.S. and around the world.
Our entire HPA community seeks to “honor the traditions of Hawai‘i”—whether through amazing elective classes or school-wide celebrations. As a boarder, you’ll have special weekend opportunities to explore further.
Marine studies and turtle research. Hiking old lava fields and forested valleys. Camping at remote beaches. Overnight horseback trips. Nighttime scuba with manta rays. And the list goes on.

You’ll live on a historic campus designed to mirror Hawai‘i Island’s wide-open landscape and local paniolo culture. In a cozy dorm, you’ll create a mini-community with your roommate, hall mates, and faculty advisors. Our dining hall serves as much food as possible from local growers, and we also grow our own in two school gardens. This is a campus dedicated to living sustainably, with reverence for the land around us.
