We have this expectation that this is HPA soccer, we’re supposed to win games. It’s not always like that, we have to prove who we are.”
—Conor Hunt, ’20
Soccer is more than just a sport at HPA—it’s a lifestyle. When you drive through the campus, it’s commonplace to see a few Ka Makani students playing on the fields, working on the finer points of the game as they visualize scoring game-winning goals.
Ka Makani have built on their tradition of success with a string of championships. Now under the guidance of head coach Adam Christodoulou, the team is rarely bested on the Big Island and is consistently in the mix for a state title.
After dominating in the Division II ranks and reeling off a pair of state titles, HPA made the brave move to Division I for the 2018 season, competing with the largest schools in the state. HPA players didn’t miss a beat, winning the league title and a share of the state championship.
Many former Ka Makani players have been able to capitalize on the lessons of commitment, sportsmanship, and personal discipline at HPA to land opportunities to play at the college level.
